Simon Farr was born in Harrow, Middlesex, on 9 November 1950. He was educated at Harrow School of Fine Art from 1969 to 1970, and in the Fine Art Department of Portsmouth Polytechnic from 1970 to 1973.

A full-time freelance cartoonist, caricaturist and illustrator, Farr has contributed to Sunday Times, Financial Times, Daily Mail, Money Observer, New Statesman, Moneywise, Public Finance Magazine and TV Times amongst others. Chairman of the Association of Illustrators from 1994 to 1995.  He was in the stable of political cartoonists for the Guardian between 2008 and 2012.

He works mostly in pen, ink and watercolours.
