News: 3 Jul: "Dublin is isolated almost as completely as in Easter Week 1916. There are no trains, letters, or telegrams. The newspaper offices, all in the centre of the city [Dublin], are doubly isolated by the ring of fire which now surrounds the Republican concentration under De Valera in its square of commandeered hotels in Sackville Street. Westmoreland Street, on which I am looking, is swept by snipers' bullets and empty of human life. ..." [The Times p.10]
