Will this economic war never end? I've been waiting in the front line queues for
years- The only thing left is hope but hope can't fill my pockets I've scanned all the
Labour exchanges but wot's the good? I don't seek work any longer[.] It's useless! It's
going to be a hard winter and a pretty lean Christmas for some of us! Who will lead us out
to the light? They say there's good times round the corner but which corner? Well, they
found a spot of work for me in 1914. I believe they were satisfied anyhow they gave me a
medal. Now what's the matter? My hands are strong[.] I've still got a good heart left. Does
nobody want me at all? I'm not the sort to go off the deep end, but when I see millions of
idle men, millions of idle acres, and hundreds of millions of idle money then it makes a
fellow think - and think aloud!
