told: 'Smoke a pipe' Mr. Malcolm Donaldson, the surgeon and former director of the cancer
department of St. Bartholomew's Hospital, speaking of lung cancer said at the annual nurses'
conference in London yesterday: "I advise you and all women - if you must smoke - to take up a
pipe." Dr. Horace Joules, the chest specialist of the Central Middlesex Hospital, said the
increase in smoking was among women, not men. Women were now smoking an average of eight
