Notes | South-eastern countries within the Soviet sphere turned hopefully towards the Marshall plan. Poland and Hungary began to consider the idea, Czechoslovakia accepted. But Moscow ruled otherwise, after Molotov had visited Paris to hear more. A plan to help the revival of prosperity in Europe flatly opposed any plan for a Communist Europe arising from frustration and failure. Moscow warned US off and made preparations to bind its Eastern satellites more closely to itself. [Caption from Low Visibility A Cartoon History 1945-1953 by David Low] |
