Robert Menzies Australian PM 1949-1966

Sir Robert Menzies succeeded Ben Chifley (ALP) as Australian PM in 1949, he was the founder of the Liberal Party and longest serving Australian PM to date.
Known as "Ming" or "Pig Iron Bob" the Menzies era saw unprecedented economic growth and issues including a staunch anti-communist platform, pro Monarchist, pro UN and Commonwealth Statesman and military involvement in Korea, Vietnam and Malaya.
The Colombo Plan, Snowy Mountains Scheme and ANZUS and SEATO as well as the Petrov Scandel were other significant developments during Menzies 7 terms and 16 years in office.
He was one of few democratic leaders to be afforded his choice of retirement from office, which he took in 1966 and handed the Liberal reigns to Harold Holt.
